January 2014
Board of Regents President Gregory W. Gray Dear Colleagues,

The past six months have been a particularly exciting time as I began my work here at the Board of Regents, toured the 17 campuses that make up the ConnSCU system, and most importantly, met faculty, students, staff, and community and business leaders.

The result of this first six months is a thorough appreciation of the strength of our system and our people. Our 17 schools are educating the next generation workforce, partnering with business and industry to give our students real-world experience, deepening our students' appreciation for learning, and graduating some truly exemplary leaders. As we look to the future of ConnSCU, we share the common goal to build on the most successful programs and initiatives and, keeping true to our mission of accessibility, ensure all of our students enjoy the highest-quality learning environment.

With input from faculty, staff, students, and campus leaders, we are well on our way to establishing a new era for ConnSCU—one of responsibility, accountability, innovation, and most importantly, student success. Excel CT, our plan to build a world-class system of higher education, will provide the blueprint for moving forward. I am optimistic that Excel CT will garner the attention of Governor Malloy and our legislators, but I'm more pleased that even in our earliest discussions we are getting a positive response from the business community and our faculty colleagues—the key to better preparing our students to compete and thrive in the 21st century.

We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but we have strong, committed teams in place at our colleges, universities, and at the system office.

I want to thank you for your dedication to our students and to the ConnSCU system. I wish everyone a very happy new year and look forward to 2014.
