| | |  | The Eastern Connecticut State University campus community celebrated the inauguration of President Karim Ismaili on April 11, 2025. The day’s events centered around a ceremony in the Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Instructional Center, where hundreds of Eastern community members, state dignitaries, and delegates from peer institutions gathered to witness the investiture of Eastern’s seventh president in 136 years. Governor Ned Lamont officially proclaimed Friday, April 11, 2025, as Dr. Karim Ismaili Day in honor of the inauguration. He began his presidency on July 31, 2024, coming to Eastern from Bridgewater State University, where he was provost and executive vice president. |
| | Connecticut State Community College Housatonic's newly renovated advanced manufacturing technology center is preparing the next generation of students for the workforce. The center offers a nine-month training program in advance manufacturing techniques. U.S. Rep. Jim Himes obtained $1 million in federal funding for the renovation and purchasing of machines. | In response to the predicted occupational growth in the fields of marketing and data analytics, Charter Oak State College will launch two new online undergraduate degrees this fall — a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics. Each program can be completed 100% online and students can earn industry certifications while earning their degree. |

| The National Council on Teacher Quality named the Elementary Education program at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) as one of the top 83 programs (out of 1,100 reviewed) in the nation in 2025 for Teacher Prep Review: Solving for Math Success. WCSU received an A+ ranking for the way it prepares aspiring teachers to successfully teach mathematics to elementary school students. |

| Beginning this fall, Southern Connecticut State University will offer a bachelor’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) with teaching certification. The program is one of about 15 undergraduate TESOL programs in the country. | Doug Bernacchi, a CT State Middlesex Ophthalmic Design and Dispensing student, was named a 2025 New Century Workforce Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship. He will be recognized at the Association of Community College Trustees’ Leadership Congress in New Orleans in October. Sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa, this is the first nationwide scholarship supporting associate degree students entering the workforce. |

| After helping lead the Philadelphia Eagles to another Super Bowl victory, offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, ’84, MS ’86, returned to his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University, with his wife, Allison Stoutland, MS ’88, SYC ’91. Coach Stoutland met with Interim President Dwayne Smith, mentor Carolyn Vanacore, Athletics Director Terrance Jones, and his former professor Robert Axtell, Professor & Graduate Coordinator of the Exercise Science Department. He toured the College of Health and Human Services’ CHAMP Center, the updated football field, and addressed current student-athletes. |

| Central Connecticut State University hosted the Junior Achievement Innovation Challenge 2025, bringing together about 75 students from 16 Connecticut high school teams. The competition challenged high school students to identify a pressing societal issue and develop a business product that leverages technology and AI to improve lives. The event featured Central faculty as experts and judges, with students acting as mentors. |

| Over spring break, Eastern’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity traveled to Lake View, South Carolina, to help construct a home for a family in need. The group spent five days constructing flooring, walls, window frames, and a porch. The student volunteers learned carpentry and construction skills to help with the safe and timely construction of the building. |
