CSCU Chancellor Terrence Cheng joined several state lawmakers to participate in a roundtable discussion at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) moderated by Rep. Corey Paris on the new Student Loan Reimbursement Program. SCSU Interim President Dwayne Smith made welcoming remarks, and Chancellor Cheng was joined in the discussion by Rep. Paris; Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz; Rep. Eleni Kavros DeGraw; Rep. Derell Wilson; Cristher Estrada-Perez, Executive Director, Student Loan Fund; Sydney Nelloms, SCSU Assistant Professor of Sociology; and SCSU student Aidon McCray, who both discussed the impact of student debt. Through the new program launched on Jan. 1 certain student loan borrowers are eligible to receive up to $20,000 over four years in loan reimbursement. |

Charter Oak State College partnered with Google to launch a new Connecticut Online AI Academy, which brings free AI training to Connecticut residents. Participants will receive a Google AI Essentials Certificate upon course completion.

The National Science Foundation announced that Central Connecticut State University Assistant Dean Barbara Budaj will receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. The ceremony signaled the beginning of a nursing student's clinical education. Dr. Jacob Werblow, professor in Curriculum and Instruction at Central Connecticut State University, received a 2025 Fulbright U.S. Scholar award to Spain from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. This spring, Werblow and his family will live in Malaga, Spain, where he will co-teach and conduct research at the at the Universidad de Málaga. |

For its seventh ribbon cutting in its 175th anniversary year last fall, Central Connecticut State University opened its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Corridor in the Vance Academic Center. The 5,000-square-foot space includes three new classrooms, an AI research room with an isolated AI server, robot dogs, and a display occupied by an autonomous synthetic human.

Nearly 80 people across the CSCU libraries gathered on January 13, 2025, at Central Connecticut State University to participate in a CSCU Library Consortium-sponsored Winter Retreat. The focus was opportunities and challenges associated with innovative uses of library spaces in the CSCU System. The retreat’s presenters discussed library spaces at Southern Connecticut State University, CT State Manchester, Western Connecticut State University, CT State Norwalk, and Central State University. The retreat also gave participants the opportunity to tour Central’s AI Corridor, XR Lab, and Maker Space.
