William Lugo serves as Vice Chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents. Dr. Lugo is a Professor of Sociology and Criminology at ECSU. He received a BA in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. At Eastern, he served as Chair of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology and Social Work from 2013 to 2017.
Dr. Lugo’s research involves adolescent drug and alcohol use and media consumption. He is involved with many local community groups in public policy advocacy, and was director of the Windham Community Task Force to Prevent Underage Drinking and served on the executive board of the Northeast Communities Against Substance Abuse from 2006-2010. In addition to serving as a full-time faculty member at ECSU, he currently serves on the Steering and Sustainability Committee for the Tri-Town Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, faculty advisor to the Freedom at Eastern student organization, and CSU Faculty Representative to the CSCU Marketing and Branding Workgroup and IT Technology Committee. Dr. Lugo also was awarded Eastern Connecticut State University's 2018 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award in February 2018 and the ECSU-AAUP Award for Governance and Service in May 2018.
