Naomi K. Cohen

Naomi K. Cohen Naomi K. Cohen was appointed to serve on the Board of Regents for Higher Education in 2011 and is a member of the Board’s Academic & Student Affairs Committee and Executive Committee and serves as Chair of the Human Resources and Administration Committee. Regent Cohen has served in numerous educational leadership positions, including four years as House Chair of the General Assembly’s Education Committee while she was a State Representative from 1983-1993. Before joining the Regents, in 2011 she was the Chair of the State’s Community-Technical Colleges Board of Trustees.

At the local, regional and national levels, Mrs. Cohen has been Vice-Chair of the Education Commission of the States, the public member representing CT on the Board of Trustees of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Vice-Chair of the Bloomfield Board of Education and member of the National Assessment Governing Board, to which she was appointed by the United States Secretary of Education. Currently she serves as Chair of the Hartford Jewish Coalition for Literacy, an organization she co-founded that provides reading tutors for at-risk K-3rd grade students in six Greater Hartford communities. As Chair of the Bloomfield Elementary Schools Building Committee, she oversaw the construction and renovation of her community’s 2 elementary schools, each of which received a national architecture award.

An alumna of Charter Oak State College, Mrs. Cohen holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Barney School of the University of Hartford.
