Barbara Richards is Professor of Sociology and vice-chair of the College Senate at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, and vice-chair of the Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC) to the Board of Regents for Higher Education. She attended Mount Holyoke College and the Women's Christian College in Madras (now Chennai), India. She received a Ph.D. in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Michigan and was an Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Organization and Management.
Dr. Richards is a former member of the New Haven Board of Aldermen and has been involved with urban community groups, public policy advocacy, and electoral politics. She has been a full-time faculty member at Housatonic Community College since 1992, and was previously elected member and then secretary of the Standing Advisory Committee to the Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education.
