The website of the Connecticut State University System (CSUS), www.ct.edu, has been ranked as the number two website in higher education over the past year by EDUCheckup, a leading blog about the use of the internet in higher education.

The analysis and ranking is based on grades for visual appearance, the quality and accessibility of information provided, and efficiency and accessibility of source code to build the sites. The site is highly regarded by marketing and web professionals throughout higher education.

This is the latest in a series of notices for the CSUS website from higher education web analysts in recent months. The website was redesigned in-house and launched last year with a fresh look, new navigation features and enhanced content on academic programs and resources.

The site includes searchable databases, including a sortable listing of degree programs; a series of interactive maps containing student and alumni populations; video galleries; syndicated news feeds; and comprehensive information about the university system and Board of Trustees. A mobile version of the website, specifically designed for use on smart phones such as the iPhone and Android, has also been launched within the past year.

In recent months, the site has been recognized on high profile web design sites, including CSSMania, Vandelay Design, Show-EE and collegewebeditor, and was the subject of a very favorable video critique. It was highlighted as “noteworthy” in the higher education gallery of eduStyle, one of the industry’s most respected sites.

For the January 2010 – March 2011 period, the CSUS website received 292 of 300 points on EDUCheckup, finishing behind Middlebury College’s website, and just ahead of University of Notre Dame, Southwest Minnesota State University and Brown University.

CSUS is Connecticut’s largest university system, with more than 36,600 students and 180,000 alumni. The website also includes numerous links to specific pages on the websites of the four universities in the system – Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities.
