Eddie Miranda
Central Connecticut State University
Eddie Miranda had dreamed since he was six years old of owning a hotel. He believed that Central Connecticut State University’s hospitality and tourism program was the perfect course of study for him. But after taking a summer class in finance, his dream changed. Miranda travelled with Central’s Finance Club and his classmates to New York City and Washington D.C. and saw important U.S. financial landmarks such as the New York Stock Exchange, Wall Street and the Federal Reserve. These experiences reaffirmed his new path of a major in Finance.
Miranda uses his education to not only help himself but his family and community. He often receives real life advice from his professors about mortgage options for his family. As treasurer of Central’s Latin American Students Organization (LASO), Miranda helps city schools understand the importance of preparing for a college education and what opportunities are available to those students who continue their education. The way Miranda sees it, “I have had all these opportunities- why not share them with others.”
Miranda plans to travel this summer with classmates and Assistant Professor of Economics Mitchell Charkiewcz to Panama for a graduate independent study course. In Panama, Miranda will study the economic realities of the country, and hopes to get a better understanding of the canal, the currency and how the life in Panama is different from his life in the U.S.
After returning home, Miranda would like to gain experience in business finance or real estate before achieving his childhood dream of someday owning a hotel.
