Telecommunication Services

Application Services The Telecommunications Unit provides a number of services in the following three areas: Voice, Network, and Construction Services.

Voice Services

Provides telephone and voice mail services for the System Office, the four CSUS universities, Charter Oak State College and the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium. The unit manages the telephone, voice mail and E-911 systems at each location as well as providing public network services.

Key services include:
  • Campus local and long distance telephone service
  • Voice mail
  • Telephone and voice mail training
  • Help Desk support for voice systems
  • Moves, adds and changes to telephone and voice mail services
  • Consulting services for optimization of telephone and voice mail operations

Network Services

provides transport of data, voice and video over our Wide Area and Local Area networks. This unit is also responsible for the design, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting of network and system devices.

Construction Services

Construction Services provides consulting services for all CSUS construction projects with regard to telecommunications (i.e. voice and network) including infrastructure and equipment. Specifically, the unit participates in various project phases from initial budgeting through final design to ensure that CSUS Telecommunications guidelines are met.

Key functions and activities include:
  • In collaboration with System Office Facilities staff, develop initial project budgets.
  • Work with architectural design teams to insure projects conform to CSUS Telecommunications specifications (e.g. room size, fiber and copper distribution and termination points).
  • Review drawings to insure that CSUS Telecommunications specifications have been adhered to and meet building requirements.
  • Work with architectural team and university telecommunications departments to tailor CSUS Telecommunications guidelines to be job-specific.
  • Review final drop count and location for voice, data, CATV, and AV systems.
  • Review and approve final design of Telecom closets to ensure compliance to established guidelines.
