The U.S.-China Center at the Board of Regents serves as a state-wide resource for the Connecticut State University System and Connecticut state agencies, businesses and organizations, to help increase Connecticut's economic and academic exchange with China.

The Center manages a Chinese language Concierge Service, which gives Chinese businesses and organizations direct access to information about opportunities in Connecticut.

One of the biggest practical obstacles of doing business between the U.S. and China is the language barrier, and the U.S.-China Center provides a host of services to facilitate easy communication, both to Connecticut and Chinese businesses. This includes a dedicated Concierge Service, consisting of a direct hotline for Chinese businesses, organizations and agencies to gain direct access in their native language about investment and business opportunities in Connecticut. The Center also produces electronic and printed materials, as well as business newsletters and press releases aimed directly at Chinese media and business news outlets, to promote Connecticut business, tourism and education.

As China's international role grows, the need to study and understand Chinese history, language, culture and politics becomes increasingly important. The U.S.-China Center works with academic departments across the state university system and bring programmatic resources for both faculty and students to work on China related issues through talks, conferences and cultural events.

The Center also works to promote ConnSCU institutions in China and to make studying here more attractive to Chinese students.

History

Between 2003 and 2013, the U.S.-China Center was housed at Central Connecticut State University, providing training programs for Chinese public officials and professionals, as well as provide support to Central's China related programs, including it's successful study abroad program.

Through an agreement with the provincial government of Shandong, the U.S.-China Center has provided a number of long- and short-term training programs for public officials within provincial and city administrations in Shandong. The programs focused on public administration, and brought 250 up-and-coming leaders from Shandong to Connecticut. The programs helped lay the foundation for stronger ties between Connecticut and Shandong, as well as create a network of connections that keep opening doors for Connecticut businesses and organizations in China.

The U.S.-China Center has also been a driving force in the establishment of the first and only Confucius Institute in Connecticut. The Institute is operated in collaboration between Central Connecticut State University and Shandong Normal University. Hosted at Central Connecticut State University, the institute provides Chinese language and culture classes to schools across the state.

Study in Connecticut

Connecticut is in many ways the ideal place to get your international education; great academic institutions in a great location. It is no coincidence that institutions such as Yale are located here, for it was here in New England that the standard that would make American higher education best in the world was first established, in a liberal and intellectually curious environment, supported by the bustling economic and cultural life. Located right between New York and Boston, Connecticut offers an unbeatable and unique geographical location.

The state university system (ConnSCU) consists of four universities and twelve community colleges, each with its own unique profile, but all with a greater focus on teaching. Faculty comes from some of the top universities in the U.S., including the Ivy League institutions and all share a strong passion for teaching. Tuition and fees are competitive.
