Women’s Roles in Twentieth-Century America
Western Connecticut State University
In Women’s Roles in Twentieth-Century America, Western Connecticut State University Professor Martha May explores the multitude of transformations that have taken place for women over the course of the 20th century. Each narrated chapter takes on a different issue faced in the lives of women, highlighting their exceptional growth over the past years. Chapter four, for example, follows women’s educational struggles and the fight for schooling up to today’s exceptional female students who dominate the classroom. Educators and students — both men and women alike — can appreciate May’s vivid depiction of the long road traveled for women of various backgrounds. This book fills some of the gaps in women’s history by touching on a wide range of subjects — from the home to politics and law — to education and art.
