In Vietnam and the West: New Approaches, Wynn Gadkar-Wilcox, associate professor and co-chair of the Department of History and Non-Western Cultures at Western Connecticut State University, takes a different approach to examining the relationship between Vietnamese and Western civilizations. Instead of assuming conflicts and disdain, Wilcox focuses on how the Vietnamese culture has changed and learned from the West. Avoiding all Eurocentric stereotypes, Wilcox examines issues such as Catholicism, gender relationships, Agent Orange, and medicine. This volume — composed of nine essays — features a wide -range of subjects through archival and field work experience, helping the reader understand the present-day conflicts surrounding Vietnam.
