Vauban Under Siege: Engineering Efficiency and Martial Vigor in the War of Spanish Succession

Eastern’s Professor of History Jamel Ostwald has been awarded The Society for Military History’s Distinguished Book award for the best work in military history on a non-U.S. topic. The award was presented for Vauban Under Siege: Engineering Efficiency and Martial Vigor in the War of Spanish Succession, a study of 17th-century French military engineer Seigneur de Vauban’s influence. Ostwald explores the decisions of generals to save time by sacrificing the lives of soldiers and its effects on the decisions in modern warfare.
