Heartfelt
Southern Connecticut State University
About two years ago, Joseph Panza’s family was in crisis. Panza’s wife, Jean, suffered from congestive heart failure, had received a pacemaker and later a pacemaker-defibrillator, but was now waiting for a heart transplant as her health dangerously deteriorated. While Panza sat for hours in intensive care awaiting word, he offered updates on a blog, or online journal, he had started months before to keep numerous friends and family apprised of Jean’s condition. At last, he received good news. Heartfelt not only recounts the process that led to the transplant, but its aftermath as well. Panza is providing proceeds of his book to Donate Life Connecticut, a statewide coalition composed of volunteers with a shared interest in public education about organ, eye and tissue donation.
