Two non-credit, fully online courses - Introduction to Manufacturing and Introduction to Natural Gas Distribution - will be offered free of charge to any interested participant and available to the public beginning June 1, 2013. Introduction to Manufacturing
During this course, you will have the opportunity to work through several different modules that will provide a basic overview of manufacturing, including: an overview of manufacturing in Connecticut and the United States; types of manufacturing; industrial materials used in manufacturing; manufacturing processes; quality control processes; a brief view of blueprints and diagrams; safety in manufacturing; supply chain contractors; and types of careers found in manufacturing.
Introduction to Natural Gas Distribution
This self-paced course introduces participants to the basic fundamentals of the natural gas industry and the operations of a natural gas distribution system. During this course, participants will have the opportunity to work through several modules that will provide a basic understanding of natural gas distribution. These modules include: a history of the natural gas industry and information on the structure of the industry; the structure of utility companies; the basic properties of natural gas; the fundamentals of natural gas pipelines and their construction; how natural gas distribution systems are operated and maintained; quality and safety in the industry; and careers in the natural gas industry.
The partnership is also supported by the Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT) and CT Dream It Do It, a national initiative to support advanced manufacturing.
