Pedro and Vanessa Rivera
Capital Community College (CCC) is frequently a “family affair,” and in 2014, a husband and wife graduated together.
Vanessa Rivera arrived in Hartford from Colombia in 2007 and enrolled at CCC as an ESL student in fall 2008. Pedro Rivera lived in Hartford all his life and attended CCC for its convenient location and state-of-the-art television studio. Both were pursuing degrees in communication media, and in fall 2010, they attended the same television production course. According to Professor Jennifer Thomassen, there was little indication they ever spoke to each other outside of class.
But shortly after a trip to Colombia they were both planning separately — unbeknownst to Vanessa, Pedro had changed his flights to coincide with hers — CCC’s communication media family then celebrated a proposal, a joyous wedding, and this past May, the birth of their baby boy Nicholas.
Both Vanessa and Pedro have a passion for media and are living their dreams. After an internship at WUVN-CH 18 Hartford, Vanessa was hired as a full-time marketing assistant for the station which specializes in Spanish programming. Pedro interned at WFSB-TV3 and is now a video editor for “El Show De Analeh” at the same station. The ambitious couple has also started their own production company, PNV Productions, and cover weddings and numerous Latino events in the community.Return to Site
