Capital Projects

The Connecticut State University System is constantly striving to meet the needs of its students, which can involve capital projects ranging from updating older buildings to address safety and technology requirements to constructing new, much-needed facilities.

Master Plans

The Connecticut State University System (CSUS) periodically revises and updates the Comprehensive Campus Master Plans for the four universities. In recent years, the Board of Trustees has approved Comprehensive Campus Master Plans for Eastern Connecticut State University (2009), Western Connecticut State University (2007), Southern Connecticut State University (2004) with Southern’s 2009 Master Plan Amendment, and Central Connecticut State University (1999).

Master Plans for each of the universities are comprehensive ten-year projections, which include several areas of study in order to fully identify and explore programming, population and facility issues.

Major areas of interest typically reviewed are academic needs, building use, efficient use of program space, land use (such as vehicle circulation, parking, pedestrian circulation, and open space use), residential life (including student recreation), and administrative needs. Effective building maintenance and facilities requirements are key elements.

Master Plan projects are prioritized based on need, and recommendations reflect an analysis of the mission, priorities and objectives of each university. The Master Plans offer comprehensive blueprints of a university’s future, utilizing existing resources and building on existing strengths, while developing an effective strategy to move into the future with the agility necessary to respond to changing circumstances.
